Terbium is a soft, silvery metal. It is relatively stable in air compared to the earlier, more reactive lanthanides in the first half of the lanthanide series.
Terbium is used to dope calcium fluoride, calcium tungstate and strontium molybdate, all used in solid-state devices. It is also used in low-energy lightbulbs and mercury lamps. It has been used to improve the safety of medical x-rays by allowing the same quality image to be produced with a much shorter exposure time.
Terbium Metal is available as disc, granules, ingot, pellets, pieces, powder , rod, wire, and sputtering target. Terbium metal is generally immediately available in most volumes. Terbium is primarily used in phosphors, particularly in fluorescent lamps and as the high intensity green emitter used in projection televisions.
