China’s Rising Forte: Graphene
China has become the world’s leading developer of graphene and the most active in developing commercial graphene based applications. The Chinese government encouraged more provinces and cities- Qingdao, Wuxi, Ningbo, Shenzhen, and Chongqing- to step up the work on designing the graphene industry as a characteristic and strategically leading sector. It aims to build a pioneer of graphene-related technological innovations and applications.
In 2013 the mass production of single-layer graphene sheets with an annual one-million square meters capacity was put into operation in a graphene industrial park in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, which is mainly used for touch screens and other flexible displays. Moreover, just recently the Chinese smartphone maker AWIT INC sold out its first batch of 2000 units of graphene-smartphone AWIT AT26 priced at CNY 799. This just proves that China’s graphene industry is not only well in progress, but will rise on the horizon in 2014. It is expected that there will be more graphene-based products to be established on the consumer goods market later this year.
Furthermore several scientific research institutions and production enterprises have started to concentrate their efforts in researching graphene. Despite the primary stage of graphene as a product, China has taken the advantageous measures to develop this wonder material. With the continuously lowered costs of graphene and the huge industrial investment there is really an evident growing business of the graphene which will continue to manifest in the future.
