The Firefighter Uniform: A Shield in a Blazing Fire
A raging fire is a tyrannical monster that devours everything, and the originally bustling downtown area may soon be burned to ashes. People outside can't get in and people inside can't get out at the scene of a fire where flames are running wild. However, there is a class of people who always appear in the dangerous fire scene. They are respectable firefighters.
Firefighters are ordinary people like us, but why are they able to walk through a smoky fire and save one life after another from death? This is because they all wear a special kind of clothing, which is firefighter uniform. Firefighter uniform is one of the important equipment for protecting the personal safety of firefighters active in the front line of fire protection, which is not only an indispensable part of the fire rescue site but also a fire protection equipment to protect the body of firefighters from injury.
The firefighter uniform is made of special materials and has many unique functions. It not only has good flame resistance and heat insulation performance, but also can easily prevent corrosion of chemical substances such as acid and alkali, and also has a certain anti-static effect. Besides that, the uniform is wide and thick, making it comfortable for firefighters to wear and free from clothing restrictions. Now firefighter uniforms are divided into several layers. The outer layer is the reflector, the middle layer is the waterproof layer, and the inner layer is the heat insulation layer.
Although the reflective layer of the firefighter uniform is only a thin layer of metal aluminum coating, It is because of it that most of the heat radiation in the field is reflected, which helps firefighters to reach their targets. The waterproof layer of firefighter uniform is usually made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) that doesn't get wet or expand when it comes to water. Besides that, PTFE can tolerate the extremely low temperature of -269.3 ℃ and a high temperature of 250 ℃, and don't fear strong acid alkali. PTFE is also known as the "King of Plastics". Its dielectric properties are so good that changes in electromagnetic frequency and temperature cannot affect it.
The heat insulation inside the fire suit is high temperature resistant and flame retardant and is usually made of flame retardant fiber. Aromatic polyamide fiber, also known as aramid fiber, contains amide groups and benzene rings composed of acyl and amino groups. Aramid is a synthetic fiber commonly used as a heat shield in firefighter uniforms.
The reflective, waterproof, and insulating layers of the suit form a solid protective shield that enables brave firefighters to stand up to the flames.
