Incoloy 800 (Alloy 800, UNS N08800) Plate/Sheet Description:
Incoloy alloy is also a range of superalloys produced by Special Metals Corporation. They are nickel-iron-chromium alloys that are used for applications that require high corrosion-resistant and high-temperature strength. Incoloy alloys are quite similar to Inconel alloys but their different composition makes some distinctions in their applications.
Alloy 800 is a widely used material of construction for equipment that must resist corrosion, have high strength or resist oxidation, carburization, and other harmful effects of high-temperature exposure. The Chromium in the alloy imparts resistance to oxidation and corrosion. The high Nickel content maintains an austenitic structure so that the alloy is ductile. The Nickel also contributes resistance to scaling, general corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. The iron content provides resistance to internal oxidation.

FAQs:
How does Incoloy 800 compare to Incoloy 800H and 800HT?
Incoloy 800H and 800HT are variations of Incoloy 800 with slightly higher creep-rupture strength due to controlled carbon content and additional heat treatment, making them better suited for high-temperature applications.
Is Incoloy 800 weldable?
Yes, Incoloy 800 can be easily welded using standard welding processes such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Inert Gas), making it suitable for fabrication in various forms.
FAQs
Q1. What is Incoloy 800 Plate/Sheet?
Incoloy 800 Plate/Sheet is a high-performance alloy made primarily from nickel, chromium, and iron. It is designed to offer excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and high-temperature degradation. It is commonly used in industrial applications where good mechanical strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures are essential.
Q2: What are the main applications of Incoloy 800 Plate/Sheet?
Incoloy 800 Plate/Sheet is widely used in industries and applications where high temperature, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength are required, including:
- Heat Exchangers: For handling hot gases or fluids in chemical or power generation processes.
- Furnace Components: In industrial furnaces, for applications like burner tips, combustion chambers, and thermocouple sheaths.
- Nuclear Power: For reactor core components, heat exchangers, and steam generators in nuclear reactors.
Q3: What are the properties of Incoloy 800 Plate/Sheet?
- High-Temperature Strength: Incoloy 800 retains high mechanical strength even at temperatures up to 1,100°F (593°C), making it suitable for high-stress environments.
- Corrosion Resistance: It offers excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and general corrosion, particularly in high-temperature and sulfur-rich environments.
- Thermal Stability: The alloy maintains its mechanical properties at elevated temperatures, preventing degradation in high-heat environments.
- Ductility and Weldability: Incoloy 800 is easy to fabricate, machine, and weld, with good formability and ease of welding using conventional techniques.
