Iron aluminide is a class of iron-based alloys with the chemical formula Fe3Al that offers excellent high-temperature oxidation and sulfidation resistance. It is a low-cost alternative to stainless steel. They resist corrosion by the formation of an adherent surface film of Al2O3. Iron aluminide is also more ductile than stainless steel. These properties, among others, make it a better material for some applications, despite its slightly higher cost.
