Thank You Letter from the Winner of Scholarship Contest

On this Monday, the winner of the 2019 Stanford Advanced Materials $1,000 College Scholarship Contest stood out from a considerable number of student submissions, who is Charles Boyle from the University of Texas at Austin. We got in touch with Charles immediately about the exciting news, and he sent us this heartfelt letter of thanks after a memorable night:

Dear Stanford Advanced Materials Scholarship Committee,

My name is Charles Boyle, and I am the recipient of the 2019 Stanford Advanced Materials $1000 College Scholarship. I am extremely grateful to be chosen as the recipient of this scholarship, and I would like to provide your committee information on how I will use these funds to further my education.

Throughout my undergraduate academic career, my modus operandi has been to learn as much as possible about the fundamentals of astronautical sciences. An extension of that commitment to education led me to declare a triple-major in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, and Astronomy at The University of Texas at Austin. This pursuit of three degrees has necessitated an additional fifth year of studies at UT, which has increased the financial burden associated with my tuition costs. Therefore, I will use the funds from the 2019 SAM College Scholarship to cover a substantial amount of the tuition expenses for my fifth and final year at UT. By covering the funds to attend UT next year, the SAM scholarship will allow me to graduate in May 2020. This, in turn, accelerates my ability to contribute to the development of next-generation propulsion systems upon graduating, enabling my overarching career goal.

I truly appreciate your generous scholarship support. The financial burden that comes with five years of tuition costs is now significantly reduced, and I will be able to focus more on schoolwork next year. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed writing my essay submission for this scholarship, and am glad that your committee was able to see value in my thoughts on refractory metals. Again, I am very thankful for your contribution and hope to work with your company in the future when I am designing propulsion systems requiring advanced materials.
