Boron Nitride

Boron nitride material has a lot in common with carbon. The hexagonal BN is similar with graphite while cubic boron nitride behaves like diamonds. BN solid components are made by hot pressing hexagonal BN powders. The true density of these parts is 2.27g/cm3 with Mohs hardness value of only 2. Thermal conductivity of BN is higher than most of other ceramic materials, which is similar to stainless steel. 

Hexagonal Boron Nitride has a much lower electric conductivity compared with graphite and could be used as electrical insulators. As BN is a chemical inert material and will not be wetted by metal, it is used to make reaction vessels and crucibles. h-BN is also used in bulk form or as a coating for refractory molds and evaporating boats. Since BN has great property for thermal shock and thermal expansion, it is used as additive for other ceramics such as SiC to enhance their thermal stability. 

Pyrolytic boron nitride, or PBN, is an advanced ceramic material produced by CVD process. Its high purity(99.99%) and low porosity are great advantages compared with tradional boron nitride material, making it an ideal material for crystal growing.
