Cr:GSGG Crystal co-doped with chromium is a kind of high-efficiency laser material. The electro-optic shutter element is used for the first time to provide the Q switching operation of ruby laser. Passive Q-switched ruby lasers are realized by saturable dye absorbent and colored glass (selenium and cadmium sulfide compounds). In recent years, the characteristics of the dye Q switch in pulsed ruby lasers have been studied. However, due to the degradation (decomposition) of dyes, the durability of dye q-switches is limited, and glass Q-switches are prone to damage. Therefore, the passively q-switched Ruby laser Gd3Sc2Ga3O12 (Cr4+: GSGG) with tetravalent Chromium doped Gadolinium gallium garnet provides high reliability, durability, and high efficiency for the first time.

The passively Q-switched Ruby laser Gd3Sc2Ga3O12 (Cr4+: GSGG) with tetravalent Chromium doped Gadolinium gallium garnet provides high reliability, durability and high efficiency for the first time. Conventional single-output pulse operation (100MJ and 27ns duration) has an efficiency of 25-30% compared to free-running ruby laser operation.
